Two numbers there deserve a pause. Both plugins sit at 96 out of 100 on WordPress.org, so anyone telling you Rank Math has better reviews is stretching it. And Yoast still has more than twice the installs, which matters when you are hiring a developer who has to work in your admin.

This is the section that decides it for most people, so here are the real numbers rather than a vague “Rank Math is cheaper”.

If you only ever run one website the gap is $22.92 a year, which is close enough to ignore. The moment you add a second site, a client site or a project blog, Yoast doubles and Rank Math does not move. That single licensing difference is why most multi site owners switch.
Worth Knowing Before You Compare Sticker Prices
Yoast Premium in 2026 now bundles the Local SEO, Video SEO and News SEO plugins that used to be sold separately. If you actually need those, $118.80 is better value than the old add on pricing and the honest comparison gets closer.
On the Rank Math side, buying through the official offer page doubles the keyword and site allowances at the same price, so PRO tracks 1,000 keywords instead of 500. Neither vendor discounts renewals.

The redirection manager is the one that surprises people. Yoast keeps redirects behind the $118.80 Premium wall, while Rank Math hands you a full manager in the free plugin.
The 404 monitor is the other free win. Every broken URL a visitor or a bot hits gets logged with the referrer, so you can fix or redirect it in two clicks. Yoast has no equivalent at any price, free or Premium.
Schema and Structured Data
Both plugins output structured data automatically, and both do it competently. The difference is how far you can push it.
- Rank Math Free gives you 18 pre defined schema types plus FAQ and HowTo blocks you can drop straight into the editor.
- Rank Math PRO opens the custom schema builder with 840 plus types, schema templates with display conditions, import from any website, and Google validation built in.
- Yoast generates a clean, well connected schema graph by default and Premium adds schema aggregation, which deduplicates your whole site's structured data into one graph. That is a genuinely good feature for AI crawlers.
If you just want valid Article and Breadcrumb schema, either plugin is fine. If you publish reviews, recipes, software listings, courses or events and you want control over the markup, Rank Math PRO is the only one of the two with a real builder.
Keyword Rank Tracking, Only One of Them Has It
Yoast does not track your rankings. Rank Math PRO does, for 500 keywords on the base plan and 1,000 through the offer link, with 12 months of position history per keyword and per post.
This is the feature that changes the maths for me. A standalone rank tracker costs $20 to $30 a month. Getting a usable one inside the SEO plugin I already needed means Rank Math PRO pays for itself before I count any other feature.
Be fair about the limits though: it pulls from Search Console, so it reports your average position, not a live check from a specific location. It will not replace a dedicated tool for local rank tracking or competitor monitoring at scale.

Both vendors shipped AI, and they went in noticeably different directions.

Rank Math's AI is aimed at producing and optimising the content. Yoast's is aimed at clearing the backlog of metadata and giving a team a shared standard. If you write alone, Content AI is more useful. If you brief freelancers, the Yoast Google Docs seat is a real workflow advantage that Rank Math has no answer to.
Speed and Plugin Weight
Every comparison post repeats that Rank Math is far lighter than Yoast. That was true in 2021. In September 2026 the gap has narrowed a lot, and you should know that before you switch for speed reasons alone.

Rank Math is still the lighter install and its module system lets you switch off everything you do not need, which genuinely helps on shared hosting. But a 1.4 MB difference in download size is not going to move your Core Web Vitals. Choose on features and licensing, not on this.
Where Yoast Is Genuinely Better
I use Rank Math and I earn a commission on it, so take this section as the part where I try hardest to be straight with you. Yoast is ahead in real ways.
- Readability analysis. Yoast's is more mature, covers more languages and explains itself better. If English is not your first language, this alone can justify it.
- Support. 24/7 human support is included with Premium. Rank Math free support runs through tickets and the community, with priority reserved for paid plans.
- Google Docs. Contributors can write optimised drafts without a WordPress login. Rank Math has nothing comparable.
- Track record and install base. 10 million sites and 27,819 reviews against 4 million and 7,506. Any developer you hire already knows Yoast.
- Bundled Local, Video and News SEO. These are included in Premium now. Rank Math puts Local SEO PRO in its paid plans too, but news and video sitemaps only in PRO.
- Bot blocker. Yoast lets you choose which AI systems may use your content for training. Rank Math has no equivalent toggle.
None of that changes my recommendation for a multi site blogger, but if one of those points is the thing holding your workflow together, pay Yoast the $118.80 and do not look back.
Switching From Yoast to Rank Math Without Losing Rankings
I did this on a site that was already ranking, and nothing dropped. The import runs inside the Rank Math setup wizard and it is the step most people worry about unnecessarily.
- Take a database backup first. This takes two minutes and it is the only step you cannot undo.
- Install Rank Math and start the setup wizard. It detects Yoast automatically.
- On the import screen, select your SEO titles and descriptions, focus keywords, robots meta and redirects, then run the import.
- Check ten or fifteen important posts by hand. Look at the title, description and canonical in the Rank Math meta box.
- Only then deactivate and delete Yoast. Keeping both active causes duplicate meta tags.
- Resubmit your sitemap in Search Console, since the sitemap URL changes to
/sitemap_index.xmlgenerated by Rank Math.
Do Not Run Both Plugins at Once
Rank Math and Yoast both write title tags, meta descriptions and Open Graph tags. Leaving both active outputs two of everything, which confuses crawlers and can suppress your snippet. Import, verify, then remove the old one.
Once you are on Rank Math, the free Instant Indexing module is the next thing worth switching on.
