Rank Math vs SEOPress is a closer fight than most comparison posts admit. SEOPress is the cheapest serious SEO plugin on WordPress and it is the lightest of the three big names, while Rank Math gives away features its rivals charge for. I have run Rank Math on this blog since 2020 and I have tested SEOPress on a client site, so this is a feature by feature comparison using September 2026 prices from both vendors, not a recycled chart.

The Short Answer
Pick Rank Math if you want the most complete free plugin and a keyword rank tracker in the same subscription. PRO is $95.88 a year for unlimited personal sites and includes tracking that SEOPress sells separately.
Pick SEOPress if you want the cheapest entry point and hate renewal surprises. PRO is $49 a year for one site and, unusually, renews at the same price forever. It is also the lightest plugin of the two and has white labelling built in.
The decision usually comes down to one question: do you need rank tracking? If yes, Rank Math is cheaper overall. If no, SEOPress is hard to beat on price.
Rank Math vs SEOPress at a Glance
Install counts, ratings and download sizes are pulled from the WordPress.org plugin API, prices from each vendor's own pricing page, all checked on 21 September 2026.
| Rank Math | SEOPress | |
|---|---|---|
| Active installs | 4 million plus | 300,000 plus |
| Rating on WordPress.org | 96 out of 100 from 7,506 reviews | 96 out of 100 from 1,257 reviews |
| Current version | 1.0.278 | 10.2 |
| Plugin download size | about 3.6 MB | about 2.8 MB |
| Entry paid price | $7.99/mo billed yearly, $95.88 | $49 a year |
| Sites at entry price | Unlimited personal sites | 1 site |
| Unlimited site plan | Included in PRO at $95.88 | $149 a year |
| Renewal price | Full price, no discount | Same price, guaranteed |
| Rank tracking | Included in PRO, 500 keywords | Separate product, $99 a year per site |
| Redirections and 404 monitor | Free | PRO only |
| Schema | 18 types free, 840 plus in PRO | PRO only, automatic and manual |
| Built in AI | Content AI, credits included | Bring your own API key |
| White label | No | Yes, in PRO |
| Money back guarantee | 30 days | 14 days |
Both sit at 96 out of 100 on WordPress.org, so neither has a quality argument over the other. SEOPress is the smaller download, which is worth noting because Rank Math is usually the one marketed as lightweight. Against SEOPress, it is not.
Price, and the Trap in Both Models
Sticker prices mislead here, because the two plugins bundle completely different things. This is what you actually pay for a comparable setup.
| What you need | Rank Math | SEOPress |
|---|---|---|
| One site, SEO only | $95.88 PRO | $49 PRO |
| One site, SEO plus rank tracking | $95.88 PRO | $148, PRO plus Insights |
| Three personal sites, SEO only | $95.88 PRO | $59 PRO 5 sites |
| Three sites with rank tracking | $95.88 PRO | $356, PRO plus 3x Insights |
| Unlimited sites, SEO only | $95.88 PRO | $149 PRO unlimited |
| Year two renewal | Rises to $107.88 | Stays the same |
The Two Things That Flip This Comparison
1. Rank tracking. SEOPress Insights is a separate $99 a year product, priced per site. Rank Math bundles tracking for 500 keywords into PRO at no extra cost. Need tracking on more than one site and Rank Math wins on price outright.
2. Renewals. SEOPress promises the same price every year. Rank Math does not discount renewals, so PRO goes from $7.99 to $8.99 per month in year two. Over five years without tracking, SEOPress is meaningfully cheaper and it is fair to say so.
Every Rank Math sale, live and expired, is tracked in my Rank Math coupon and discount guide if you want to time a purchase.
The Free Versions Are Not Close
Most people start free, and this is where the two plugins diverge hardest. Rank Math gives away several things SEOPress reserves for PRO.
| Free feature | Rank Math Free | SEOPress Free |
|---|---|---|
| Target keywords per post | Unlimited | Unlimited |
| Titles, meta, canonicals | Yes | Yes |
| XML sitemaps | Yes | Yes, XML and HTML |
| Instant indexing, IndexNow | Yes | Yes |
| Redirection manager | Yes | No, PRO only |
| 404 monitor | Yes | No, PRO only |
| Schema markup | Yes, 18 types plus FAQ and HowTo blocks | No, PRO only |
| Breadcrumbs | Yes | No, PRO only |
| Search Console data in WordPress | Yes | No, PRO only |
| Google Analytics 4 in dashboard | Yes | Tracking setup only, stats are PRO |
| robots.txt editor | Yes | No, PRO only |
| Image alt automation | Yes | Yes |
| Role manager | Yes | No |
| Page builder SEO panels | Elementor and Divi | Elementor, Divi, Oxygen and more |
Schema is the big one. A free SEOPress site outputs no structured data at all, while Rank Math Free gives you 18 schema types plus FAQ and HowTo blocks you can drop into the editor. If you are not paying for either plugin, that is a real ranking difference, not a spec sheet difference.

Redirections and the 404 monitor are the other free wins. SEOPress bundles both into PRO, so a free SEOPress user who moves a URL has to reach for a separate redirect plugin.
Schema and Structured Data
Once you are paying, both do schema properly, but they aim at different users.

- SEOPress PRO gives you automatic and manual schemas with advanced display conditions. It is clean, it covers the common types, and it does not get in your way.
- Rank Math PRO opens a builder with 840 plus schema types, reusable templates, import from any website and Google validation inside WordPress.
- For an ordinary blog both are plenty. If you publish reviews, recipes, courses or software listings and you want fine control over the markup, Rank Math has the deeper tool.
Rank Tracking, the Hidden Cost
This is the single biggest practical difference and the one most comparison posts skip.

Rank Math PRO tracks 500 keywords, or 1,000 through the offer link, with 12 months of position history per keyword and per post, at no extra cost. SEOPress does have tracking, but it lives in SEOPress Insights, a separate product at $99 a year per site, which also adds a backlink tracker.
To be fair to SEOPress: Insights tracks backlinks too, which Rank Math does not do at all. If backlink monitoring matters to you, you are comparing Insights against a standalone SEO tool, not against Rank Math. But if you only want to see where your posts sit in Google, Rank Math gives you that for free with a plugin you were buying anyway.

AI in 2026, Credits Against Your Own Key
Both shipped AI, and they made opposite architectural choices.

| Rank Math | SEOPress | |
|---|---|---|
| Model | Content AI, Rank Math supplies the models and bills credits | Bring your own API key |
| Providers | Managed by Rank Math | OpenAI, DeepSeek, Claude, Google Gemini, Mistral |
| What it writes | 45 plus tools, full drafts, outlines, brand voice, research assistant | SEO titles, meta descriptions and image alt text |
| Running cost | Credits included with the plan, more can be bought | Whatever your chosen provider charges |
| llms.txt for AI crawlers | No | Yes, PRO |
If you want a writing assistant inside WordPress, Content AI is far more capable. If you already pay for an AI provider and just want metadata generated cheaply, the SEOPress approach costs you almost nothing and you keep control of the model. The SEOPress llms.txt generator is also a genuinely forward looking feature that Rank Math has no answer to yet.
Where SEOPress Is Genuinely Better
I earn a commission on Rank Math, so this is the section where I try hardest to be straight with you. SEOPress beats it in several real ways.
- Renewal pricing. Same price every year, in writing. Rank Math renewals go up and that catches people out in year two.
- Entry price. $49 against $95.88. For one site with no tracking needs, that is half the cost for a capable plugin.
- Lightest install. About 2.8 MB against 3.6 MB, and SEOPress has a long standing reputation for a clean, upsell free admin.
- White labelling. Built into PRO. If you hand sites to clients and do not want a plugin brand in their dashboard, Rank Math cannot do this.
- Backlink tracking. Insights covers backlinks as well as rankings. Rank Math has nothing comparable at any price.
- Bring your own AI key. No credit system to run out of, and you choose the model.
- More page builder integrations. Oxygen, Beaver Builder, Brizy and Visual Composer alongside Elementor and Divi.
Where Rank Math Pulls Ahead
- The free plugin. Schema, redirects, 404 monitoring, breadcrumbs and Search Console data, none of which SEOPress gives away.
- Rank tracking included. 500 keywords in PRO against $99 a year per site.
- Unlimited personal sites at the base price. SEOPress charges $149 for unlimited.
- Ecosystem. 4 million installs against 300,000 means far more tutorials, forum answers and developers who already know it.
- Schema depth. 840 plus types with a real builder and templates.
- Content AI. A full writing assistant, not just metadata generation.
- Longer guarantee. 30 days against 14.
Which One Should You Actually Pick?
| If you are | Pick | Why |
|---|---|---|
| On no budget at all | Rank Math Free | Schema, redirects and a 404 monitor without paying, SEOPress Free has none of these |
| Running one site and watching every dollar | SEOPress PRO | $49 a year, and it never goes up |
| Running several personal sites | Rank Math PRO | One licence covers all of them at $95.88 |
| Wanting rank tracking | Rank Math PRO | Included, against $99 a year per site for SEOPress Insights |
| An agency handing over client sites | SEOPress PRO | White labelling is built in and Rank Math has no equivalent |
| Tracking backlinks as well as rankings | SEOPress Insights | Rank Math does not track backlinks at all |
| Publishing reviews, recipes or events | Rank Math PRO | 840 plus schema types with a real custom builder |
What I Run and Why
Rank Math, and the deciding factor was the rank tracker rather than the feature list. I run several sites, so one PRO licence covers all of them and replaces a separate tracking subscription. If I ran a single client site and billed for it, I would seriously consider SEOPress for the white labelling and the flat renewal.
Rank Math vs SEOPress, Frequently Asked Questions
Which is better, Rank Math or SEOPress?
Rank Math for most bloggers, because its free plugin includes schema, redirects and a 404 monitor that SEOPress reserves for PRO, and PRO bundles rank tracking for 500 keywords. SEOPress is better if you run one site on a tight budget, since PRO is $49 a year and renews at the same price forever.
Is Rank Math better than other SEO plugins?
On free features, yes. Rank Math Free includes schema, a redirection manager, a 404 monitor, breadcrumbs, Search Console data and unlimited focus keywords, which is more than the free tiers of Yoast, SEOPress or All in One SEO. On paid features the answer depends on what you need, since SEOPress is cheaper and Yoast has stronger readability tools.
How much does Rank Math cost per month?
Rank Math PRO is $7.99 per month billed yearly, which is $95.88 for the first year and covers unlimited personal sites. Business is $24.99 per month and Agency is $54.99 per month. Renewals are not discounted, so PRO renews at $8.99 per month.
How much does SEOPress cost?
SEOPress PRO is $49 a year for one site, $59 for five sites and $149 for unlimited sites, all excluding VAT. SEOPress Insights, which adds rank and backlink tracking, is a separate $99 a year per site. SEOPress guarantees renewals at the same price.
Does SEOPress have a free version?
Yes, and it handles titles, meta descriptions, canonicals, XML sitemaps, unlimited target keywords, instant indexing and image alt automation. What it does not include is schema markup, breadcrumbs, redirections or the 404 monitor, all of which are PRO features.
Does Rank Math include rank tracking?
Yes, in PRO. It tracks 500 keywords on the base plan and 1,000 through the offer link, with 12 months of position history. SEOPress sells tracking separately as Insights at $99 a year per site, so if you want tracking on more than one site Rank Math is cheaper overall.
Is SEOPress lighter than Rank Math?
Slightly, yes. The SEOPress download is about 2.8 MB against about 3.6 MB for Rank Math as of September 2026. Both are module based so you can switch off what you do not use, and neither difference will meaningfully change your Core Web Vitals.
Can I switch from SEOPress to Rank Math?
Yes. The Rank Math setup wizard imports SEO data from SEOPress in one click, along with Yoast and All in One SEO. Back up your database first, run the import, spot check a dozen posts, then deactivate the old plugin. Never leave both active, since they both write title tags and you will get duplicates.
What are some good alternatives to Rank Math?
SEOPress is the cheapest capable option and the closest competitor on price. Yoast SEO is the most established with the best readability analysis, and All in One SEO sits between them. I compared Rank Math with Yoast in a separate post if you want that head to head.
Which is better for SEO, Yoast or Rank Math?
Rank Math on value. Its free plugin includes redirects, a 404 monitor and unlimited focus keywords that Yoast charges for or does not offer, and one PRO licence at $95.88 covers unlimited personal sites against $118.80 per site for Yoast Premium. Yoast wins on readability analysis and 24/7 support.
Does SEOPress support white labelling?
Yes, white labelling is included in SEOPress PRO, which lets agencies hide the plugin branding in a client dashboard. Rank Math has no equivalent feature, so this is a genuine reason to choose SEOPress for client work.
Do either of them slow down WordPress?
Not meaningfully on decent hosting. Both are module based, so the practical advice is the same for either plugin: turn off the modules you do not use, such as local SEO or WooCommerce SEO on a plain blog, and keep your sitemap sensible.
