5 Best WordPress Form Builders, Compared on Real Data

The two highest rated form builders on WordPress.org are among the least installed, and neither appears on any page currently ranking for this search. Five compared on directory data and real pricing.

Every list of the best WordPress form plugins recommends the same seven. I went looking at the actual plugin directory data instead, and the thing that jumped out is that the two highest rated form builders on WordPress.org are among the least installed. Both sit on a perfect 100 out of 100. Neither appears on a single page currently ranking for this search.

So this is five plugins rather than ten, four of them modern and genuinely different from the old guard, plus one underrated pick I chose on the numbers rather than on how often it gets mentioned.

If you only read one line

Fluent Forms is the one I would tell most people to buy. It is the most complete of the five at a sensible price, it is fast, and 700,000 sites and 798 ratings mean you will find an answer when you get stuck.

Bit Form at 25 dollars a year is the value pick and it is not close. WS Form is what you buy when the form is complicated enough that the others start fighting you.

The plugin directory numbers first

These are from the WordPress.org plugin API on 25 September 2026, not from anyone's comparison table.

Form builder ratings against active installs
  • WS Form LITE and Bit Form both hold 100 out of 100, from 322 and 260 ratings respectively. Those are not thin samples flattered by a handful of five stars.
  • SureForms has 500,000 installs but only 93 ratings. That ratio is distribution rather than demand: it comes from Brainstorm Force, the company behind Astra, and lands on a lot of sites through their ecosystem.
  • Everest Forms is the quiet one at 98 out of 100 from 375 ratings on 90,000 installs, and it shipped four days before I wrote this.
  • WPForms has 5 million installs and 96 out of 100. Popular and good, but not the best rated, which is worth sitting with given how much of this SERP recommends it.

Why install counts mislead here

Form plugins get bundled. They arrive with themes, with hosting one-click stacks, and with other plugins from the same company. An install count tells you how good someone is at distribution. The rating tells you what happened to people after they installed it. When those two numbers disagree as sharply as they do here, believe the rating.

The five, and what each is actually for

1. Fluent Forms, the one most people should buy

700,000 installs, 96 out of 100 from 798 ratings, and the best balance of power and weight in this group. Conditional logic, multi-step forms, payments through Stripe, PayPal, Mollie and Razorpay, a proper entry manager, and around 60 integrations without buying add-ons one at a time.

It is also genuinely light. That matters more than people expect, because a form plugin loads on the page where you are asking someone for money or an email address, and that is the worst page to be slow. Pricing is 63 dollars for the first year on one domain, 127 for five and 239 for unlimited, with a lifetime single site licence at 279.

  • Buy it if you want one plugin that will still be the right answer in three years.
  • Skip it if you only need a contact form, in which case the free version is already more than enough.

2. WS Form, for the form that defeated everything else

A perfect 100 out of 100 from 322 ratings and only 10,000 installs, which tells you exactly who uses it: people who needed something specific and found it here.

WS Form is the most technically capable builder on this list. Real calculated fields, conditional logic that can act on almost any event rather than just showing and hiding, repeatable sections, and a data source system that can populate fields from a database query or an API. If you have ever hit a wall where a form needed to do arithmetic and then branch on the result, this is the one that does it.

The trade is the learning curve. It is built like a developer tool, because it is one. Pricing is 59 dollars a year for one site, 149 for freelance and 249 for unlimited. No lifetime option.

  • Buy it if you build quote calculators, complex applications, or anything with real logic behind it.
  • Skip it if you want to build a contact form in four minutes and never think about it again.

3. Bit Form, the value pick and it is not close

The other perfect 100 out of 100, from 260 ratings on 10,000 installs, and it is the cheapest serious option here by a wide margin: 25 dollars a year for a single site, or 99 once for a lifetime licence. For context, the lifetime licence costs less than two years of anything else on this page.

It is built around being small. The plugin advertises loading around 15 KB of JavaScript, which is a fraction of what the older builders ship, and it still covers conditional logic, multi-step forms, payments and a large integration list.

  • Buy it if you want most of Fluent Forms for a third of the price, or you want a lifetime licence on a budget.
  • Skip it if you need a large community to search when something breaks. At 10,000 installs, you are often the first person to hit a given problem.

4. SureForms, the block editor native one

SureForms builds forms inside the block editor rather than in a separate interface, which if you already live in Gutenberg is a real advantage. It is the newest of the five and it shows in both directions: the interface is clean and modern, and the feature set is younger than the others.

Pricing starts at 59 dollars for one site, 149 for ten and 229 for a thousand, with lifetime licences from 249. Their pricing page leads on having no feature gates between tiers, which is a fair claim and a genuine difference from the add-on model most of this category uses.

Be clear-eyed about the 500,000 installs. SureForms comes from Brainstorm Force, the Astra company, and a large share of that number is ecosystem distribution rather than people picking it. 93 ratings on half a million installs is the tell. That does not make it a bad plugin, it just means the install count is not the endorsement it looks like.

  • Buy it if you build in the block editor and want forms that feel native to it.
  • Skip it if you need the deep logic and integration maturity the older plugins have accumulated.

5. Everest Forms, my underrated pick

I picked this one on the numbers rather than on how often it comes up, which was the brief. Everest Forms sits at 98 out of 100 from 375 ratings on 90,000 installs. That is the highest rating of anything in its size class that is still under active development, and it shipped a release four days before I wrote this.

Feature-wise it is not a lightweight. Payments, surveys and polls, multi-step forms, conversational forms, conditional logic and a form abandonment add-on. Pricing is the friendliest on this page at the top end: 49 dollars for one site, 99 for five, and 199 a year for unlimited sites, against 239 for Fluent Forms and 249 for WS Form.

It gets left off these lists because it is made by WPEverest rather than one of the three companies that dominate WordPress affiliate content. That is the only reason I can find.

  • Buy it if you manage client sites and want unlimited licences cheaply, or you want surveys without a second plugin.
  • Skip it if you want the biggest possible support community behind you.

One I looked at and rejected: Piotnet Forms fits the underrated brief on paper, but its last release was February 2024. An unmaintained form plugin is a security problem waiting to happen, so it is not on this list.

The thing that actually matters on a form page

A form plugin loads on the page where you ask for an email address or a card number. That is the worst page on your site to be slow, and most of these plugins load their scripts on every page by default, not just the one with the form on it.

Whichever you pick, check that. Then read the speed guide for how to stop plugins loading where they are not needed.

WordPress form builder FAQs

What is the best WordPress form builder plugin?

For most people, Fluent Forms. It has the best balance of features, page weight and community size at 700,000 installs and 96 out of 100 from 798 ratings. If budget is the constraint, Bit Form does most of the same work for 25 dollars a year and holds a perfect 100 out of 100 rating.

Which WordPress form plugin is rated highest?

WS Form and Bit Form, both on a perfect 100 out of 100 on WordPress.org, from 322 and 260 ratings respectively as of September 2026. Both have only around 10,000 active installs, which is why neither appears on most best-of lists.

Is WPForms worth it?

It is a good plugin with 5 million installs and 96 out of 100, and it is the easiest to learn. It is also the most heavily promoted form plugin in WordPress, which is why it appears everywhere. On the directory numbers alone, several smaller plugins are rated higher and cost less.

What is the cheapest good WordPress form plugin?

Bit Form at 25 dollars a year for a single site, or 99 dollars once for a lifetime licence. It is rated 100 out of 100 and covers conditional logic, multi-step forms and payments, so it is not cheap in the sense of being limited.

Which form plugin is best for calculated fields?

WS Form, comfortably. It handles real arithmetic across fields and can branch on the result, which is what you need for quote calculators and conditional pricing. Fluent Forms and Everest Forms both do calculations, but neither goes as deep.

Are free WordPress form plugins good enough?

For a contact form, yes, and you should not pay for one. The free tiers start falling short when you need conditional logic on complex forms, payments, multi-step layouts or proper entry management, which is the point at which a licence pays for itself.

Does SureForms really have 500,000 users?

It has 500,000 active installs, but only 93 ratings, which is an unusual ratio. SureForms comes from Brainstorm Force, the company behind the Astra theme, and much of that install base arrives through their ecosystem rather than through people choosing it directly. It is a decent plugin, just judge it on the rating rather than the install count.

Which form plugin is best for WooCommerce?

None of these replace WooCommerce checkout, and you should not try to make them. Use a form plugin for enquiries, quote requests and lead capture alongside the store. If you are taking one off payments outside the cart, Fluent Forms has the widest gateway support of the five.

Can I accept payments through a WordPress form?

Yes. All five here support Stripe and PayPal on their paid tiers. Fluent Forms adds Mollie and Razorpay, which matters if you are billing in India or Europe. For anything involving a cart, inventory or tax, use WooCommerce rather than a form.

Do form plugins slow down a WordPress site?

They can, and most do it in the same way: loading their CSS and JavaScript on every page rather than only where a form exists. Bit Form is built around being small and advertises roughly 15 KB of JavaScript. Whichever you choose, check whether it loads globally and restrict it if it does.

Which form builder works best with the block editor?

SureForms, because it builds forms as blocks rather than in a separate interface. The others provide a block to embed a form that you built elsewhere, which works fine but means switching between two interfaces.

Should I buy a lifetime form plugin licence?

Only if the plugin is actively maintained and the price is genuinely low, because lifetime means the vendor's lifetime, not yours. Bit Form at 99 dollars is the one that makes the maths obvious, since it pays for itself against any yearly option in under three years.
